Winery Stobi - Gradsko

Macedonia covers an area of 28.000 ha under grape vine, from which 70% is grapes for wine production, and 30% is table grapes. Macedonia has an annual production of 100 – 150.000.000L of wine, or is participating with 0,3 - 0,4% in the world production of wine. Leading variety is Vranec which is used for production of quality and superior wines.

Stobi Winery is situated in the centre of Macedonia and is located in the Tikvesh Wine Region which is the most famous vine region in Macedonia.
It covers an area of 12.000 ha, and a surface of 1.600 km2, which represents about one third of the total vineyard area of Macedonia.  It is the driest area of the Balkan Peninsula (due to a colision of mediteranean climate from the south and the continental from the north) with a total annual temperature sum of 5300ºC - 5500ºC and a rainfall of 500-600 liters per square meter.  The maximum daily temperature during July and August is around 40ºC.  With a deep plowing layer, the rich soils supply the grapes with a constant supply of water.  Gentile North winds provide a natural protection from cryptogrammic diseases.The most spreaded grape variety is a local ( indigenous ) variety Vranec, with almost 50% of the total vineyards planted with red grapes. From the introduced international grape varietes there are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Shyraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat, Riesling, Traminer etc.
The installed capacity of the winery is 4.400.000 litres from which 1.200.000l is for fermentation.
The winery capacity is projected based on our vineyards which are cca 500ha in total, including varieties such as Zilavka, Zupljanka, Rkaciteli (indigenous white varieties) , Rhine Riesling, Italian Riesling, Chardonnay, Muscat Otonel, Pinot Noir, Vranec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon etc.
Every year we invest in planting of new vineyards and for the last two years we have planted 60ha  with rootstocks coming from the highly recognized institution worldwide Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo – Friuli, Italy.
From here we have planted varieties with genetic predisposition of low (or limited) yield production such as Chardonnnay, Muscat Otonel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdo, Shyraz etc.
The winery is equipped with the latest technology (full automatic) which only enable us to maintain and to preserve the quality of our grapes and later wines.
All the installed technology is originated from Italy and Germany including companies such as GIMAR TECNO, SIPREM, GORTANI, DALLA TORRE IMPIANTI,
PALL FILTRATION SYSTEMS, KRONES AG etc.
The bottling line is from KRONES AG which is with capacity of 5.000 bottles per hour and can work with five bottle formats (1l Stelvin, 1l cork, 0.750l, 0.5l, 0.187l bottle).
Very soon we will close our investment cycle with the bariqque department which is under construction and it will be ready in mid April. The capacity of the oak department is projected on 300.000 litres, from which 70% will be in big oval casks and 30% in small barrels of 225l.
For that purpose we have already ordered all the casks and barrels from Italy, France, Hungary and Croatia.
